Kindermusik for the Young Child

Age Range: 5 to 7 years

Wouldn’t you love for your child to play an instrument, maybe piano, guitar, even violin, but you’re not quite sure if now is the time?

We’ve got the answer! The value of Kindermusik lies in the fact that your child will develop a lifelong love of music and a greater capacity for learning in all areas. But Kindermusik also provides a developmentally-appropriate transition to learning a “real” instrument. We take what comes naturally—curiosity, movement, singing, finding patterns, and playing games—and gradually add rhythmic notation and melodic patterns and before you know it, your child can read music, write songs, and play an instrument. (And that’s just in the first semester!)

The first year’s instrument is a glockenspiel (like a xylophone), then they progress to a stringed-dulcimer and recorder in the second year. But notice that equates to a pre-keyboard, a string, and a woodwind instrument. When a child can understand the orientation of the bars of the glockenspiel and how to hold the strings on a dulcimer, plus read and write music effortlessly, then that child is ready for those piano, violin, and guitar lessons!
